「Staying at Tsuyukusa Ryokan is like being fussed over by your grandparents.
We were treated to a large traditional room, sleeping on futons.
It was like a slumber party complete with provided pyjamas (Yukata) which you get to walk around everywhere in, including at breakfast.
The private outdoor onsen was amazing.
Just make sure you take off all forms of shoes before stepping on anything inside or you'll get a scolding.
Also, your yukata needs to be on straight or you'll get a public adjustment!
The table tennis hut was a lot of fun and the full Japanese breakfast included was an absolute welcome surprise.
The location is great and directions very clear.
The host not speaking English definitely made it a more authentic experience.
It was fine for generic transactions but when I thought I'd lost something and when I tried to explain that our room didn't need to be cleaned, that was a bit difficult.
But my fault for not learning more Japanese!
All in all, a really interesting and relaxing experience and they even gave us a souvenir photo and small Shinto charm on parting.」
